For the first time in the past ten years the Gators did not make the Big Dance. Ohio State did not make it either. This is the first time both of the prior year's finalists failed to make the tourney since Magic Johnson's Michigan State & Larry Bird's Indiana State failed to return to the tournament the following year after playing each other in the final game in 1979 and then losing Johnson and Bird to the pros.
